Two years ago, Patissez, a small café in Canberra, Australia, coined its over-the-top “Freakshakes” or “milkshakes on steroids”, as I like to call them.
Underpinned by some brilliant social media marketing, Patissez quickly became the trendiest joint in town. Millennials, guiltily binging on this pantry favourite at home, were now queuing for forty minutes to do it in public!
Its WOW factor has made the Freakshake an instant hit on social media: «I wanted to do some shakes that were so ridiculous and over the top that people just had to take a photo of it. » said the owner of Patissez.
The concept caught on nationwide and the “Supershake” was born. From Australia to Singapore to Malaysia and the Middle East, this trend shows no sign of stopping.
Discover my Freakshake creation with MONIN products: the “Choc Peanut & Popcorn Super Shake”!
- MONIN Caramel sauce or peanut butter
- 30 ml MONIN Popcorn syrup
- 1 tablespoon crunchy peanut butter
- 3 scoops vanilla or chocolate ice cream
- 150 ml milk
- Whipped cream
- 15 ml MONIN Dark Chocolate sauce
- Popcorn, marshmallows and chocolate sticks
Blend the “recipe” ingredients until smooth and serve in jam jar previously decorated with caramel sauce or peanut butter. Top up with whipped cream and finish with “topping” ingredients.
Do not forget that decoration is key of success, needs to be big and full of imagination. Do not be afraid to add large pieces of chocolate, pastry, snacks… donuts and waffles. In this case the bigger is better!
